If the reverb was toned down this might win out, which would be nice, since it is so common. Very clear rear cues but DH falls down with way too much reverb. Seriously its rear cues are non-existent and the audio quality is really messed up when it tries (and fails) to apply virtualization. The only asterisk I would put here is compared to the Super X-Fi as I have not had enough time with it to come to conclusions on its audio quality.Īwful. These are all great devices if you want an easy "do it all" DSP dac/amp. I also like the hardware this is commonly bundled with, e.g. I'd say compared to the competition, the audio quality itself is maintained at the most "original" level before you throw in the surround convolution. Instead it is my favorite of the bunch because in combination with its more than adequate virtualization: (1) the hardware it comes with is usually very good and commonly decodes Dolby Digital (5.1 bitstream from consoles) meaning I can use it for console games and PC games and (2) I can put the surround virtualization all the way up and the audio is not really negatively affected by too much reverb or other crap. Its VSS is quality and has excellent rear cues but that's not the reason it stands above the rest, in my opinion. If you don't mind I will also contribute my impressions below. I prefer music "as is" (except maybe for some EQ.maybe). Not so much music, since most of it is meant for stereo listening and I don't want the out of your head/room virtualization even for two stereo speakers for headphone music listening. This is basically why I went down the headphone rabbit hole and I am a big virtual surround DSP proponent for surround enabled games and movies. Was installed as part of ARISE Sound System. Unfortunately doesn´t work anymore with my LG V20 (tested on Nougat).īefore I did keep the slight but great surround of this app always on. ![]() See above, with the inteligent equalizer perfect. Only pick a correct APK if available for your modell on XDA, don´t go downloading one of the fake PlayStore APKs. Jazz/Rock songs with multiple instruments/guitars is the FET compressor and Reverbation.Īll in all I have around 8 profiles which I use depening on the genre I listen to utilize it best. The Viper Bass features makes a good difference, I use it for Hip Hop/Deep Electro songs mainly where I want a stronger, deeper bass. Viper Clarity again for clearer vocals/highs, I keep with natural-option at 3.5/6 dB. I use this depending on the mood and have different presets.ĭynamic System option is always on for me. (Field, Differential and Headphone Surround). There are also several Surround options in Viper. I wish there was a Windows version which can use those files, maybe the above mentioned Sonarworks Reference 4 does something similar. Both I tested for Shure SE-215 and Sony MDR-7506 work perfect, giving a cleaner more neutral sound. I really like the Viper-DDC where you can pick a correction file for your specific headphones. It has gone a long way since being released. Here it also gives much more customizations than on Windows. Viper4Android (root needed) Best overall, hands down. It only gave me problems with Skype calling so I dropped it for now. Was also impressed, it had more options to find the best for your headphones. This is what I used before in the 30-day trial.: The fidelity option is also good, it gives crispier highs/vocals: I like how you can enable/disable the virtual boxes so you can exactly see where they are placed and how they sound. Looks like you can calibrate the sound of your specific headphones:īoom 3D I am on Mac right now and testing the new (?) Boom 3D. Haven´t tested before, but it looks worth to try. This is a screenshot from Dolby Home Theatre: including the Intelligente Equalizer which is amazing). Somehow I also can´t get any of the other full-feature Dolby Apps to work with (e.g. ![]() It doesn´t make that a big difference for me. The immersion and crystalizer options have the best impact. Sound Blaster Connect 2 I have setup now Sound Blaster Connect 2 on my Windows, and I really do like it and actually replaced Viper4Windows with it. Or a specific one for your headphone model if you find it (search XDA). You can pair this also with specific IRS-Files (Impulse Response).Į.g. (There is an updated Windows version finally on Github). Surround Effects for Stereo Headphones - Fine-tune the bass - Vocal Clarity if needed - Increase and modify the Sound Stage - Improve sound of compressed filesīased on what I read, if you already have a a high-end DAC, the DAC will already do to the work for you - so it shoudn´t be worth in this case.Īfter SRS, Viper4Windows was my go-to app. I have been using Audio Enhancements since discovering SRS Surround Audio like 10 years ago with my cheap $40 sound boxes.
